For documentation · from GitHub

Docs that stay in sync with your code.

Keep docs as Markdown in your repo. Connect it once, pick a docs theme, and Contito turns it into a fast, searchable documentation site that keeps up with your merges through hourly syncs. There’s no build pipeline to maintain.

01/The case for it

Why your product needs real docs.

Good documentation answers a customer’s question at 2am, and it keeps doing that long after the engineer who wrote it has moved on to other work.

Fewer support tickets

Good documentation answers the questions before they ever reach your inbox. It’s the cheapest support you’ll ever run.

Faster adoption

Developers evaluate before they commit. Clear docs are the difference between a product that gets integrated and one that gets abandoned.

Onboard without hand-holding

New customers and new teammates get productive on their own, instead of pulling someone off real work to explain things.

Docs that match the code

When docs live in the repo, they’re updated in the same PR as the change, so they never quietly drift out of date.

02/How it works

From repo to docs site, in four steps.

Your repo stays the source. Contito does the building and the hosting.

Step 01

Keep docs as Markdown in your repo

Write docs beside your code in plain Markdown, so they get versioned and reviewed in the same pull requests as everything else your engineers ship.

Step 02

Connect your repo

Step 04

Merged changes go live on their own

Merge a pull request and the docs site picks it up within the hour on Pro and Ultimate. When a change can’t wait, press Sync in the dashboard.

03/Pick a look

Docs themes with search and nav built in.

Every docs theme comes with sidebar navigation, search and clean typography, ready for your brand. Switching themes later leaves your Markdown untouched.

04/FAQ

Questions, answered.

Does it work with my existing Markdown?

Yes. Point Contito at your repo and it renders your Markdown, folder structure, code blocks and all.

How do the docs stay in sync?

Contito checks the connected repo on a schedule, hourly on Pro and Ultimate and daily on Starter, and republishes whatever changed. You can also trigger a sync from the dashboard or the API.

Do I get search and navigation?

Yes. Docs themes ship sidebar navigation generated from your file tree, plus search. On Starter, search covers titles and descriptions. Pro and Ultimate search the full text.

Can I host it on my own domain?

Yes, with automatic SSL. You can also serve it from a subdirectory of your main site (for example yoursite.com/docs) on Pro and Ultimate.
